Teaching Practice Certificate

Teaching Pratice Certificate

All students that enrol on one of our online courses will receive the optional Teaching Practice Certificate as a free bee. Online TEFL courses do not usually have a practical classroom teaching component. So, why not arrange your own in-class teaching practice – and we´ll give you recognition for this.

This sounds great, “but where will I find a teaching venue?” you ask. You can contact various organizations such as language schools, local government, universities and colleges with ESL departments, community centres and faith-based groups in your local area or country. You´ll be pleasantly surprised how accommodating these institutions can be if you show the initiative. You can also complete the Teaching Practice Certificate whilst working in your first teaching job.

Now you´ve been knocking on doors and you´ve finally found a school that has agreed for you to teach a few English lessons for your teaching practice. Great result – what now?

You´ll need to complete 20 hours of in-class teaching practice consisting of:

  • 6 hours of teaching
  • 10 hours of teaching observation (sitting-in on the classes of experienced teachers)
  • 4 hours of classroom assistance (helping a teacher)

Firstly, you´ll log into your student access area where you will find the teaching practice guide with the three forms that need to be downloaded and completed. Not to worry as the documentation is not onerous, and should be signed by your employer to verify your participation.

Then, on completion of all this practical teaching experience, you´ll need to fill in and submit the following forms to your tutor:

  • Time log form– confirming your completion of 20 hours of in-class time. Unfortunately, home tutoring cannot be accepted as it is vital for the integrity of the programme that your teaching experience is verifiable by a third party.
  • Self-evaluation form– submit a self-evaluation form highlighting your strengths, weaknesses and areas where you think you can improve.
  • Lesson Plan– submit a copy of a lesson plan that you used during your teaching practice.

How is the programme evaluated?

Once you have uploaded the necessary documentation from your Student Access Area, your tutor will check that this has been completed to a satisfactory standard and will send you the TP Certificate – Click here to view a sample Teaching Practice Certificate.
