For the Certificate in TEFL programme as a whole, the overall aim is to provide you with a thorough introduction to the theory and practice of teaching English as a Foreign Language. With the online learning course, you can enrol and begin the programme at any time during the academic year –whenever it suits you! This course aims to provide students with new insights into language teaching, providing a deeper understanding of the principles and practice of English language teaching to foreign young learners and adults.
The focus of the course is on both practical and theoretical aspects of English Language Teaching and will prepare you for an exciting and rewarding career in many different locations around the globe!
The general objectives of the course require each student to be able to:
– Demonstrate a general understanding of, and familiarity with the world of teaching English as a Foreign Language including general terminology, the profession’s qualifications, further training options and career opportunities.
– Demonstrate a good grasp and a basic understanding of the communicative approach to teaching English as a Foreign Language.
– Write objectives and appropriate lesson plans.
– Manage other teachers, timetabling, course development, assessment, testing, recruitment, policies and procedures, development plans.
This 120 hour online TEFL course offers 4 specialized course modules:
– Teaching English to Young Learners
– Business English Teaching
– Teaching One-to-One
– Grammar Awareness
To get started with your course, scroll down to the heading “Course Content” further down this page. Then, click on the module title “The Teaching & Learning of EFL”. This will open your course.
You must work through the course and module content in the order which it is presented:
– Module >> Readings >> Videos >> Assignment >> Quiz
– Once you have completed a unit/step (e.g. Module Readings), you must click on the “Mark completed” button which will allow you to move on to the next unit/step.
You´ll be pleased to know that there´s no final examination – so, there´s no mounting pressure. You simply follow the modules at your own pace and submit a quiz/assignment after each module. These will be assessed by your tutor and you´ll receive detailed feedback. Once all quizzes/assignments have been successfully completed, you´ll receive your TEFL qualification. The overall pass grade/mark for this course is 50%. *Some module course readings include fun and interactive activities labelled “Check your understanding”. These activities are not included in your overall assessment.

You can take notes while you go through the course. All you have to do is click on the “Take Notes” tab at the bottom right of the page. You can drag and re-size the notes pop-out so it is in a perfect position for jotting down your notes. Save all your notes to your “Consolidated Notes Dashboard” which can be accessed by scrolling to the top of this course page and clicking on the “Materials” tab. These notes are available to be downloaded or printed at any point in time.
