Requirements to Teach English Online

How to Teach English Online

Teach English online and allow yourself to work from anywhere in the world. So, what are the basic requirements to be able to work for a reputable online employer?

Firstly, you’ll need a recognized and accredited TEFL certificate. Online employers will require that their English teachers are adequately trained and have the necessary skills.

Whilst not all online employers will stipulate a degree as an absolute requirement, most online employers do require that their English teachers possess a TEFL certificate as well as a degree. The degree can be in any discipline and not necessarily related to education.

This brings us to the device and internet requirements to teach English online. Usually one can work from either a desktop or laptop computer although some online employers offer app-based platforms that can be used from a mobile phone or tablet. A camera and a headset with a microphone are essential. A high-speed internet connection is needed to teach English online – some employers request a wired connection as opposed to WiFi.
