Speaking Syllabus for Progress
A speaking syllabus for each proficiency level should be designed to provide a sense of moving forward, of growing achievement and progress.
ELEMENTARY LEVEL
In the Elementary TEFL programme, students should aim to:
- demonstrate an understanding of word order in English;
- demonstrate a basic vocabulary sufficient for everyday use;
- use those sounds in English that do not occur in their mother tongue;
- have learnt the appropriate intonation and stress patterns of English;
- give basic personal information, can exchange greetings, can ask for simple information necessary for daily school life.
INTERMEDIATE LEVEL
In the Intermediate TEFL programme, students should aim to:
- define familiar vocabulary in their own words, using alternative phrases or expressions;
- show a basic competence in spoken English in familiar situations and role sets;
- negotiate the transactions need for daily life and to function adequately in basic social situations;
- understand more complex instructions and explanations;
- give oral presentations, perform role-play situations and be able to communicate in class discussions;
ADVANCED LEVEL
On completion of the Advanced TEFL programme the student should be able to:
